Resolved Question: How would you describe NBC's stupidity over the past few years?

9 June 2010, 1:35 am

With the cancellation of several shows that were great, had potential, scapegoated, etc as well as shows kept that deserve to be scrapped, I thought I would get some opinions on what others think of these absurd decisions NBC has been making recently. Some shows that have been canceled by NBC that deserved to be kept: Medium (thankfully CBS brought it back), Chuck (fan protest brought it back), Journeyman, the new Knight Rider (it was redeeming after midseason but wasn't given a fair chance to prove itself), Bionic Woman (they screwed that show from the start), Last Comic Standing (surprisingly that's managed to survive after being canceled more than once), My Name Is Earl (ended on a cliff hanger, they could have renewed for at least half a season to end it properly), Law & Order (one more season to set a new record, COME ON!), Surface (ended on a cliff hanger and was a rather popular show), Scrubs (not only did they screw up on a series finale, but it was obviously popular enough to get picked up by ABC for a couple of more seasons), and some others. But yet they keep crap shows like: Friday Night Lights (it went to satellite only and bombed, that's how bad it is), The Biggest Lardass (aka The Biggest Loser), a few years ago they tried to keep LAX on the air despite obscenely low ratings, and quite a few others. Now mind you, I know that sometimes a good show just starts to lose ratings and that's understandable. But instead of just axing the show, I wish they'd try to figure out WHY instead of just sending it off to eternal hiatus. My Name Is Earl, for example, was competing against Smallville, so obviously it wouldn't be doing too well. They moved L&W to Monday nights and suddenly its old viewership isn't watching (because they aren't used to the move) so its got lower ratings. New shows don't get a sporting chance because people are so used to good shows getting canceled that they don't let themselves get into a show unless it hits more than one season. The list of logic that NBC is defying just goes on. It's enough to make me wonder if TPTB aren't letting their incompetent wives (or husbands or lovers) make the decisions and they just follow orders because they want to keep getting the booty action. So I ask, how would you describe the extreme stupidity being shown by the NBC execs?... Read More »
