Open Question: Looking for nonhuman protagonists?

Please no vampires, werewolves or chick lit. (unless it really, really fits my request and isn't the typical crap) Specifically, what I would like to see is a female protagonist with special abilities/power/strength/etc., with an interesting heritage or background. She could be a half alien with acid for blood like Ripley from the 4th Alien movie. She could be a once-human android, or enhanced human like the girl from that crappy bionic woman TV show. She could be a human-turned-elf like Tinker from the novel Tinker. I'd like to see an interesting nonhuman (unique, not one of many) female protagonist along those lines.
